Non-Profit Storytelling
Grand Prixmiere / Belle Isle Conservancy
Every year, the Detroit Grand Prix holds the Grand Prixmiere fundraiser the night before the race begins. The Grand Prixmiere raises money for many great Detroit non-profit organizations like the Belle Isle Conservancy, Pope Francis Center, Boys & Girls Clubs of Southeastern Michigan, Detroit Public Safety Foundation and the Detroit 300 Conservancy. These two videos showcase the Belle Isle Conservancy who works in partnership with the Michigan DNR and the City of Detroit to support and sustain the 982 acre park.
BELLE ISLE TOURS
One initiative the Grand Prixmiere funds will support is the expansion of their tour program, bringing visitors to places like the Belle Isle Aquarium, Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory, Belle Isle Nature Center and many other areas around Belle Isle. This story follows Visitor Experience Associate, Ossie White, as he gives guided tours and shares his passion for Belle Isle.
JAMES SCOTT MEMORIAL FOUNTAIN
Grand Prixmiere funds have also been used to help maintain the James Scott Memorial Fountain and keep it running. The fountain was opened in 1925 so over the years the pumps and systems have started to show their age. I was able to get a behind-the-scenes look underneath the fountain to showcase some of the investment in the fountain. This story follows Robert Carpenter, a retired DTE electrical engineer who shares his passion for maintaining the fountain for Belle Isle and the City of Detroit.
