Graduate Education Student Stories
Oakland University Macomb
LYZBETH’S STORY
I filmed this short profile on OU graduate student Lyzbeth Payne to highlight her journey in the Early Childhood Education program. Lyzbeth shares how her childhood art teachers inspired her path, and how she hopes to give back by opening an art studio for young children. The video blends interview and footage at Lyzbeth’s home to tell her story, while also showcasing how the flexibility of OU Macomb has supported her return to school as a working adult and mom of two. The video was adapted into multiple short formats including 10, 15, and 30-second cuts for use in digital ad campaigns.
KARLA’S STORY
I created this video profile of Karla Gudino Avila, an Oakland University graduate student and the first in her family to graduate from both high school and college. Now an assistant principal at Detroit Cristo Rey High School, Karla shares how education shaped her life and why she returned to her community to help inspire the next generation. Filmed on location at her school, the video explores how OU’s program has helped her grow as a leader and deepen her impact in the classroom.
